Christians must learn about Islam
God's people are destroyed by a lack of knowledge
As a Christian scholar of Islam, I invite you to join me and learn more about the deeply complex religion with over a billion believers. This Substack is focused on helping Christians better understand Islam and Muslims today, so that they might make informed decisions when thinking about Islam, talking to Muslims, or considering careers in peace-building, foreign affairs, or ministry.
A Complex time for Christians to engage with Muslims
Christians need to engage with Islam as it exists in reality, not in memes, inflammatory posts, political rhetoric. There’s a lot of click-bait out there, and psyops are running rampant on X, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. Every day, I hear Christians or Muslims characterizing one another in ways so uninformed, even shallow, that I’ve begun to seriously worry about the hearts and minds of believers worldwide. We must pursue excellence in our work. We must do so with dignity and honor before God. Instead, I hear hate for enemies instead of prayers for them. I want to change that. After working across the aisle with moderate and not-so-moderate Muslims communities in the Middle East and North Africa, I’m here to take up the major issues, head on.
Are you one of these?
The content here is open to everyone, but the following people might benefit the most:
Christians who want to know more about Islam from the sources of Islamic art, law (sharia), culture, history, theology, philosophy, and economics.
Future pastors, ministers, imams, and spiritual leaders.
Muslims who want to understand more about Christianity and Christian perspectives on their religion.
Scholars who want to engage with provocative ideas outside of typical academic channels.
Christians must understand Islam
Islam is an incredibly complex religion with 1400 years of history. I’d guess that many underestimate just how thorough Muslim of the past and present have been in addressing politics, theology, Sharia (Islamic law), history, and philosophy. I’ll explore these topics to help Christians better understand their own faith, why they believe what they do, and draw from Christian sources to make a case for their own faith. Lacking understanding and informed knowledge is destroying believers’ faith committments. Speaking in memes makes your faith weaker. Living in Jesus’ love and merciful compassion (not suicidal compassion or misdirected empathy) is the way forward.
